Superbad Wins Again!

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Well the weekend is over and the official numbers are in and who is number one this weekend? It is “Superbad” for the second weekend in a row with $18M box office sales this weekend and a total of $68.6M overall so far. That is pretty good for any movie on their second movie and very good for a comedy. Even though it has made quite a bit of money non of it is mine, that is really weird, but for some reason I have not found time to get to the theater even though I have some gift certificates, so basically it is free to me. I still got some time before it leaves the theater and heads to DVD. I really hope I do get some time and head over and go see this since it looks hilarious.

Anyways second in this weekend is “The Bourne Ultimatum” with $12.5M, that is really good for being out for four weeks now and puts total gross to $185.3M. This movie should also get over $200M, well I sure hope it does. And third this weekend is “Rush Hour 3” with $11.8M and a total of $108.5M. Both of these moves are doing very well for being the third installment in each of their series.

And for the ones that have seen “Superbad” how was it?

“Evan Almighty” Makes $32M

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

To most people this is a lot of money well it is for this type of movie as well. But for “Evan Almighty” this is quite a low number for how much this movie cost to produce. And that lucky number is $175M, so only making $32M on its opening weekend is not quite so much. Also “Evan Almighty” is the equal to “Bruce Almighty” staring Jim Carrey, made about $68M its opening weekend two years ago. This may have been that “Bruce Almighty” was to me a more original, more interesting story. I still have not seen “Evan Almighty” yet but the production company along with many critic reviews say it’s a comedy for the family which they were aiming for. Since it was a family film that may have hurt it in the opening box office sales but the production company says family films keep their momentum longer and be a better seller longer DVD and be played more on TV networks. I can see Disney paying a lot of money for the rights to play it many times over on their TV station non other than Disney. They better hope they are right otherwise they might not make all their money back, but I think they will make it, family films to me seem to always do well overtime. And I guess time will only tells us, but if you have not seen this yet I think it may be worth your time and money because to me, even though it doesn’t have the adult humor “Bruce Almighty” had I think it does have something worth while.

Even though it did only make $32M its opening weekend it did take number one for this weekend box office sales by about $12M. And last weekend’s number one “Fantastic 4: the Rise of the Silver Surfer” went down to number three with $20m, almost only going down by one but lost to “1408″ by only a few hundred thousand.

For those who have not seen it and do not know if you would like, well I made a post a few days ago with a trailer in it so you can check it out and see if you might like it.

For all of you that have seen it, what did you think about it?

Fantastic 4 Makes $57M

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Yes the new Fantastic 4 movie, “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, made $57 million the first weekend making them number one in the box office for the weekend. Also “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” surpassed “Fantastic 4″ which made a little less of $56.1 million. To me that is a great thing when a sequel can beat its first weekend’s revenue, it also shows that this movie has something different, something special that the first did not have. Now how long can Fantastic 4 hold the top, only time will tell. But right now they have a huge lead, second, “Ocean’s 13″ is sitting at about $19 million after being number one last weekened with $36 million.
